Type locality: Jolo Jolo , Sulu, Philippines .

Morphometrics: Valves 38–53 (28–68) μm long, 21–29 (19–35) μm wide, transapical striae in sternum valves 9–10 (7–12) in10 μm, in raphe valves 20 (17–26) in 10 μm.
Remarks: Achnanthes citronella has been reported in Tahiti ( Ricard 1977) and the Penghu Islands of Taiwan ( Li 1978), Cuba ( Foged 1984), Fujian coasts of China ( Jin et al. 1985), Palawan of Philippines ( Podzorski & Håkansson 1987), Kowloon Bay of Hong Kong ( Glenwright & Dickman 1997), Mascarene Islands in the western Indian Ocean ( Riaux-Gobin et al. 2011), Guam, Society Islands and the Caribbean Sea ( Lobban et al. 2012), the coast of the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico ( López-Fuerte et al. 2015), Florida Bay ( Frankovich & Wachnicka 2015), and the southern India ( Rai & Rajashekhar 2015). It is a diatom taxon living in warmer coasts in view of its distribution. This taxon was found rarely as an epiphyte on seaweeds along the Seogwipo coast of Juju Island, and it is a new report to South Korea.
