Type locality: Borneo: Miang Besar.

References: Simonsen 1987, p. 163, pl. 262, figs 7–12; Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 298, pl. 141, figs 24–26; Al-Yamani & Daburova 2011, p. 110, pl. 86, figs f–i.

Remarks: This species occurred in Tahiti ( Ricard 1977), the Penghu Islands of Taiwan ( Li 1978), Kuwait coast ( Al-Yamani & Daburova 2011) and sandflats of the Nakdong River estuary of Korea ( Joh 2013). The specimens collected from the Red Sea near Eilat and Réunion Islands of the western Indean Ocean are illustrated in Witkowski et al. (2000), and it is on the check-list of epiphytic diatoms in Florida Bay compiled by Frankovich & Wachnicka (2015).

In the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, this taxon was rarely found in the benthic sediments and seaweeds in the lagoon and pseudo-lagoons.
