Type species: Tanytydeus cristatus Theron et al., 1969 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. With characteristics of the family. Eyes absent. Solenidia on legs and palptarsus form sensory pits. Setae (u) of tarsi II–IV not bifurcate. With two or three pairs of genital acetabulae.
Species included. The genus Tanytydeus includes 10 species: Tanytydeus aegyptiacus ( Soliman, 1974) , T. amabilis ( Kandeel, 1992) , T. neocristatus Kandeel and Hoda, 1984 ,from Egypt, T. beyzavii Khanjani et al., 2014 from Iran, T. cristatus Theron et al., 1969 from South Africa , T. cubanus sp. nov. from Kuba, T. kakadu Seeman and Walter, 1999 , T. lamington Seeman and Walter, 1999 , from Australia, T. kethleyi sp. nov. and T. simplex (Delfinado and Baker, 1974) comb. nov. from USA,.
