Type species: Scolotydaeus bacillus Berlese, 1910 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. With characteristics of the family. Eyes present. Solenidia on legs and palptarsus erect. Setae (u) of tarsi II–IV usually distinctly bifurcate. Always with three pairs of genital acetabulae.
Species included. The genus Scolotydaeus includes seven species: S. alexanderi ( Baker, 1949) comb. nov. from USA, S. anatolicus Dönel, Seeman and Doğan, 2012 from Turkey, S. bacillus Berlese, 1910 from Italy, S. corticicola Flechtmann, 1992 from Brazil, S. lootsi ( Theron et al.,1969) comb. nov. from South Africa , S. tauricus ( Kuznetsov, 1973) comb. nov. from Crimean peninsula, and S. uralensis sp. nov. from Southern Ural, Russia.
