Biogeographic Comment. The distribution of this species shows a geographic disjunction from Mexico to Venezuela. We have two possible explanations. The first is that records are lacking in most Central American countries and in some northern countries of South America, and the second alternative is that there are two different species: one in Mexico and the other in Venezuela. A similar situation was observed in the study of the Homalolinus Sharp species, in which Homalolinus canaliculatus (Erichson) presented a distribution like A. amethystinus , but when studying in detail all the available specimens and the type, it was recognized as two species, one new ( Homalolinus mexicanus Márquez ) and one already described ( H. canaliculatus ) (Márquez 2003). A distribution pattern cannot be clearly established until the aforementioned problem is resolved.

First Record for the State of Oaxaca ( Fig. 2a View Fig ). “ Oaxaca, San Miguel Chimalapa, San Antonio-El Retén , direct collection, 16 to 22-VII-2019, A. Ramírez-Ponce col.” (1♂, 1♀) .

Previous Records ( Fig. 2a View Fig ). Mexico: Chiapas (Chilil, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Tenejapa, Tapalapa, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Unión Juárez: Tacaná volcano) ; Guatemala (Baja Verapaz: 4 km S Purulhá, 8 km NE San Lorenzo, Izabal:Sto.Tomás- Cerro San Gil, S. P. Yepocapa-Chimaltenango, San Marcos between Sivinal and Unión Juárez-W slope Tacana volcano, Zacapa: El Progreso- Estancia de la Virgen) (Márquez 2003; Márquez and Morrone 2003) .

Biogeographic Comment. The distribution of this species was previously analyzed by Márquez and Morrone (2003), and this new state record confirms its distributional pattern limited to the Chiapas highlands province ( Morrone et al. 2017), which extends to the north up to Chimalapas Mountains in the state of Oaxaca.

Homalolinus mexicanus Márquez, 2003

First Record for the State of Puebla ( Fig. 2b View Fig ). “ Mexico: Puebla , Honey , Chila de Juárez, San Marcos river, 20°17ʹ40.3ʹʹN, 98°13ʹ36.6ʹʹW, 1500 m, cloud forest, on decaying trunk, 12-VI-2019, J. D. Silva-Hurtado col.” (1♂, 1♀). Same data, except: “ 8-VIII-2019, J. Márquez col.” (1♂, 2♀) .

Previous Records ( Fig. 2b View Fig ). Mexico: Chiapas (Berriozábal, Ocozocoautla), Hidalgo (Rancho Viejo), Oaxaca (Pluma Hidalgo, Portillo del Rayo ) and Veracruz (Banderilla: La Martinica, Córdoba, Fortín de las Flores, Orizaba, Santiago Tuxtla, Totutla: Mata Oscura, San Martín volcano, Xalapa) (Márquez 2003; Márquez and Morrone 2003) .

Biogeographic Comment. In the paper of Márquez and Morrone (2003), this species was recorded with some doubt for the state of Hidalgo since Rancho Viejo is a town name known also in other states, such as Veracruz, and because its distribution pattern was apparently limited to southeastern Mexico, not including the Sierra Madre Oriental province. However, the new state record presented here increases the chances that the record in Hidalgo is correct and that this species will extend its distribution from the Chiapas highland province, the Sierra Madre del Sur province and the confluence of the Sierra Madre Oriental province to the Veracruzana province. This species is endemic to Mexico; however, the possibility of recording it also in Guatemala is not ruled out, which would show more clearly that it may correspond with the Mountain Mesoamerican distribution pattern and cenocron ( Halffter 2017; Morrone 2015).
