Eremiaphila ammonita Uvarov, 1933 View in CoL
Distribution: Jordan and Palestine.
Material examined: (33) specimens: Al Barrah (Dana Reserve) 5.IX.05 (1M); Al Heeshah 15.VII.03 (5N); Faqu'a 31.VIII.04 (1F;) Al Qaser 31.VIII.04 (1F); Ash Shawbak 23.IV.05 (3N), 16.VII.03 (2N); At Tafelah 7.VIII. 97 (1F) ( JPUC); Dana 15.VII.04 (1N), 11.VIII.05 (1M); Najel 14.VII.03 (6N), 15.VII.03 (5N, 2F,1M); Petra 23.V.05 (1N); (South Jordan) (2N) (MUC).
Remarks: Eremiaphila ammonita can be recognized by the extending blackish brown band of the hind wing, which covers all of it except its yellow borders. This species was described from Amman ( Jordan) ( Uvarov,1933). Also, it was incorrectly recorded from Palestine under the name Eremiaphila genei by Uvarov (1923). The female Holotype was collected by Buxton in 25.VIII.1921 from Amman and was kept in the British Museum ( Marshall, 1975). So far, this species appears to be endemic to Jordan and Palestine. It appears usually from April to September. It was common in cultivated lands around fields planted with barley and also on soil covered with many white small stones near Ash Shawbak. High level of cannibalism was observed among the nymphs in rearing cages.
