Holotype: ♀: Israel: Wadi Watir , 5.08.1975 (A. Freidberg). Deposited in TAU.
Differential diagnosis
This species is similar to S. efflatouni ( Rohdendorf, 1935) by the petiolate cell r5; it differs by light colour of legs and by presence of only 4 pairs of fine fr.
Body length 4.0 mm.
Female ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (a-b)). ‒ Head ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (c-e)). Black, densely yellowish white dusted, occiput light grey pollinated. Anterior part of frontal vitta yellow, without pruinescence. Antennae and palpi yellow, apical part of arista brown. Frons at vertex 0.49×, at level of antennal base 0.46 × head ‒ width. Frontal vitta at level of anterior orb as wide as frontoorbital plate, 2 × widened posteriorly. First flagellomere 2.8× as long as pedicel, arista widened in basal half. Palpi medium long, at apex strongly widened. Prementum 6× as long as wide. One regular row porb; vte and vti almost equal in length, oc hair-liked, orb 1 + 1, short and fine, fr 4 pairs, short, hair-liked; fronto-orbital and facial plates bare, only one pair of short hairs above vi presents. Oral bristles 1 ‒ 2 pairs, short and black; genae with several pale hairs, occiput bare. ‒ Thorax ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (a-b)). Black, light grey dusted, scutellum yellowish, longitudinal stripes of mesonotum absent. Covered with numerous fine black setae; acr 0 + 1, dc 2 + 3, ia 0 + 2, pprn 2, kepst 1 + 1; npl 2, notopleural surface without additional short setae. Scuttelum with three pairs of strong marg and one pair of ds. ‒ Wings ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (b)). Hyaline, basicosta and epaulette yellow. Costal spine absent; cell r5 petiolate, its marginal section 0.7–0.8× of r-m; M obtuse-angled, without apical extension; dm-cu straight; 3rd section of C 0.5× as long as its 5th section. ‒ Legs. Entirely yellow except for dark brown tarsi; t2 with one ad; fore 2nd – 4th tarsomeres widened and short. ‒ Abdomen ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (f)). Black, light grey pollinated, laterally yellow; 1 + 2nd tergite dark brown, with light dusting; each of 3rd – 5th tergites with median light brown spot in basal 0.3–0.4 and unclear lateral bands, which are blackish brown at 3rd and brownish yellow at each of 4th and 5th tergites. 1 + 2nd and 3rd abdominal tergites without marg, each of 4th and 5th ones with a row of marg.
Male unknown.
Etymology
The specific epithet refers to yellow ground body colour of fly. From the Latin word ‘ flavus ’ ‒ yellow.
