Differential diagnosis

This species is reported by general features to S. tricuspis (Meigen, 1838) ; it differs by entirely yellow antennae and the absence of presutular acr.

Body length 7.0 mm.

Female ( Figure 7 View Figure 7 (a-b)). – Head (Figures 50–52). Black, silvery grey, slightly yellowish dusted. Frontal vitta in anterior part yellow, almost without pruinescence; occiput grey dusted. Antennae entirely yellow, slightly grey dusted, arista black; palpi yellow. Frons at vertex 0.39 ×, at level of antennal base 0.54× head width. Frontal vitta 1.8× widened backwards, at level of fore orb 1.7× as wide as fronto-orbital plate. First flagellomere 2.0× as long as pedicel, arista widened in basal 0.3. Parafacial plate at level of antennal base and genae both 0.21× eye-height. Palpi long, not widened at apex. 2 regular rows of porb; vte strong, 0,5× as long as vti; oc strong and long; orb 1 + 2, strong (at left surface before orb 2 additional short setae present), fr 9–10, strong and crossed. Fronto-orbital plate and upper surface of parafacial plate with several erect black setae, lower part of parafacial plate bare; 1–2 short setae present above vi; oral bristles short, numerous and black; genae and occiput short black haired. ‒ Thorax (Figures 48–49). Mesonotum dark, light grey dusted, longitudinal stripes of mesonotum narrow and badly developed. Dorsal surface and pleurae covered with medium long black erect setae; acr 0 + 1, dc 3 + 3, ia 1 + 2, pprn 2–3, npl 2, notopleural surface bare; kepst 1 + 1, upper part of sternopleural covered with numerous long black erect hairs. Scutellum with three pairs of marg and one pair of dc. ‒Wings (Figure 48). Hyaline, basicosta and epaulette yellow. Costal spine absent; r5 narrowly open; R4+5 with a single seta at base, M right-angled, dm-cu s-like curved, the ratio of 3rd and 5th costal sections is 1: 1.7. ‒ Legs. Entirely black; t2 with one ad. ‒ Abdomen ( Figure 7f View Figure 7 ). Black, grey dusted, 1 + 2nd tergite dark, 3rd tergite with median longitudinal stripe and a pair of lateral unclear spots, 4th tergite with equal drawing, but median stripe very narrow; 5th tergite entirely grey. Each of 3rd – 5th abdominal tergites with full rows of marg.

Male unknown.

Etymology

The species epithet refers the general similarity this species to Senotainia tricuspis ; it is formed from the Latin word similis ‒ similar.
