18. Myoxanthus frutex (Schltr.) Luer (1982a: 36) View in CoL . (Fig. 14H)
Basionym: Pleurothallis frutex Schlechter (1912: 454) View in CoL .
TYPE:— BOLIVIA. La Paz: Sud Yungas, terrestrial in humus-rich rocky soil, near Unduavi, 3200 m, Nov 1910, Buchtien 2613 (holotype: assumed to have been destroyed in the bombing of the Berlin herbarium; lectotype, designated here: K-000583610!; isolectotypes, AMES!, L!, US).
Distribution: — Bolivia and Peru.
Notes:— This species generally produces huge, erect or pendent, pseudo-terrestrial proliferous plants. It is similar to M. chloe , which is also found in Bolivia. However, it can be distinguished from that species by the yellowish to brownish flowers and obscurely angled lip margins vs. whitish flowers and acute lateral lobes of the lip. In the protologue of M. frutex, Schlechter (1912) did not indicate where the holotype was preserved. Assuming the holotype was in Berlin and was lost when the herbarium was destroyed, Luer (1992) indicated the location of a type at K, but he did not designate it explicitly as a lectotype. We thus make this designation here.
