TYPE:— BRAZIL. Minas Geraës : epiphytic in forest at Lagoa Santa, Warming s.n. (holotype: K).

Notes:— The holotype of Myoxanthus lonchophyllus is lost, and the species is here lectotypified using an illustration associated with the original material. The species, like its relatives M. conceicionensis , M. punctatus and M. ruschii , is endemic to southern Brazil. They share the fleshy flowers frequently mottled or dotted with dark purple-red, petals with margins revolute, a fleshy lip with apical margins revolute, column with a pair of calli on the column foot and anther cap ciliate-fimbriate. However, M. lonchophyllus is easily recognized by the conspicuous fimbriate margins of the lip. Myoxanthus ruschii also has a ciliate to fimbriate lip, but only apically, and the petals are not revolute. The lip of M. punctatus may also have short fimbriate margins, but it is fleshier with the apex rounded.
