TYPE:— BRAZIL. Espírito Santo: Santa Teresa, Valsugana Velha, Santa Lúcia Biological Station , 750 m, 16 Jun 2001 (fl), Fraga 780 (holotype: MBML!; isotype: RB).
Distribution: —Southeastern Brazil.
Notes:— Like M. conceicionensis , M. lonchophyllus and M. punctatus , this species is endemic to southeastern Brazil and has a dark red to purple-spotted perianth, lip base with a small auricle on both sides and margins revolute to the apex and the characteristic fimbriate anther cap. However, M. ruschii is easily recognized among these by its elliptic to ovate petals vs. ovate at the base then narrow with revolute margins forming rounded linear petals.
