46. Myoxanthus serripetalus (Kraenzl.) Luer (1982a: 51) View in CoL . (Fig. 18D,E)
Basionym: Pleurothallis serripetala Kraenzlin (1916: 23) View in CoL .
TYPE:— PERU. Junín: Huanacayo, epiphytic in the valley of Pariahuanca between Panti and Rocchac, 2400‒2600 m, 31 Mar 1913, Weberbauer 6538 (holotype: B, destroyed, lectotype, designated here, the isotype MOL8372 About MOL ) .
Distribution: — Ecuador and Peru.
Notes:— This is the largest and most distinctive species of Myoxanthus . The flowers are dark red to dark purple with the column yellowish, long sepals (up to 3 cm) densely covered adaxially by circular to subcircular warts. The petals are obovate at the base, abruptly contracted above the middle, forming a narrow, oblong to linear apex. The lip is ovate to trilobate with lateral lobes erect bellow the middle and margins serrate to fimbriate and apex verrucose; it has a subclavate column and fimbriate anther cap. The most similar species is M. oliviae , which is distinguished by brownish to yellowish flowers and sagittate petal apex. Myoxanthus serripetalus is found in the high Andes of Ecuador and Peru, above 2000 m elevation. Because the holotype of Pleurothallis serripetalus was destroyed at B, an isotype preserved at MOL is designated here as lectotype.
