TYPE:— ECUADOR. Zamora-Chinchipe: Estación Científica San Francisco, between Loja and Zamora , 2010 m, 7 Feb 2005, Werner 1481 (holotype: MO, not located).
Distribution: — Ecuador.
Notes:— According to the protologue, the type was deposited at MO, but the specimen was not located when it was requested. Luer compared it with M. affinis and suggested it could be distinguished from the latter by the fleshy flowers with wider sepals and petals and an oblong lip that is acutely arcuate near the middle. The photo (Fig. 18K) here fits the description and illustration of M. werneri , the most diagnostic features, the wide broad sepals, arcuate lip and bidentate column apex.
