Type:— COSTA RICA. Cartago: Jiménez, Pejibaye, La Marta, shore of Río Pejibaye , 9º47’47”N 83º42’55”W, 690 m, epiphytic in secondary vegetation along the river, premontane wet forest, 10 Jan 2004, Pupulin 5044 (holotype: CR!, photo, illustration of type, CR!; isotype: JBL spirit) GoogleMaps .
Distribution: — Costa Rica.
Notes:— For years, this proliferous species remained unnoticed and misidentify as M. scandens , the only previously known proliferous species reported for Costa Rica. Myoxanthus sotoanus is recognized by linear leaves and flowers with brownish sepals, yellowish translucent petals and yellow lip. The most similar species is M. panamense , but M. sotoanus is distinguished from the former by the brownish sepals vs. greenish translucent and yellow lip vs. purple.
