Zelotes naphthalii View in CoL n. sp.
Figs 93–95 View FIGURES 93 – 95
Type material. Adult male holotype from Mt. Meron, Israel, leg. Iris Musli, May 6, 2007, pitfall trap ( HUJ 15524). Female unknown.
Etymology. The specific name refers to the tribal land of Naphthali, the habitat of the new species.
Description. Colouration black. Small eyes, ALE largest and touching rather small AME; PME irregularly shaped. Chelicerae with 3 pro- and 1 retromarginal teeth.
Male. Measurements (holotype + 3 ɗɗ; holotype listed first): total length 3.4, 2.9–3.4; carapace length 1.4, 1.3–1.4, width 1.1, 1.0–1.1, index 1.27, 1.27–1.4; labial index 1.0, 1.0–1.3; clypeal index 4.0, 3.5–4.0; MOQ index 10.77, 10.0–10.8; legs length: I 4.4, 4.0–4.6, II 3.2, 2.7–3.1, III 2.7, 2.6–2.8, IV 5.7, 5.4–5.6; patella-tibia index 1.28, 1.14–1.36.
Palpus. Small. Fine filamentous embolus originates at middle of mesal side, runs up distally, encircles large median flange and terminates basally on retrolateral side ( Figs 93–95 View FIGURES 93 – 95 ). Tibia armed with stubby median bulge and brown, slightly undulating retrolateral apophysis ( Figs 93–95 View FIGURES 93 – 95 ).
Diagnosis. Based on male. The palpal configuration of Z. naphthalii resembles superficially that of Synaphosus species. However the presence of a distinct distal comb of stiff setae on the metatarsi of the third and fourth pair of legs signifies the new species as a zelotine species and the presence of a bulb with an intercalary sclerite places it in Zelotes . By the latter character and, by the absence of a tegular apophysis Z. naphthalii differs from Heser species. The embolic trajectory, the large median flange and the configuration of the tibial apophyses clearly distinguish Z. naphthalii from all other Zelotes species.
Distribution. Israel. Records: Mt. Meron, Ramat HaNadiv on Mt. Carmel.
