Habitus. As for the genus; WL of males 6.0– 7.3mm, of females 7.8–9.4mm.

Male. The projecting front of the epiproct baseplate deeply divides T10 into hemitergites. The rear part of the baseplate narrows in a nearly straight line, the caudal margin is rounded with indistinct caudolateral corners and is barely wider than the epiproct. In dorsal view the epiproct is transversely oval. It is hollow and largely conceales the granules which form a low narrow hump with rounded front limit on the caudal part of the baseplate. The narrow peduncle of the epiprocts is seen from below, or by transparency ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ). In side view, the epiproct is relatively flat. The granules on the caudal part of the baseplate appear as a little cone ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ).

Paraproct body consisting of the two lateral blades attached to a U-shaped sclerite, there is no median tubular structure. In spread-out condition on slides ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10 – 17 ) each blade is initially wide, narrows caudally and ends in a soft narrow apex. Measured from the rear edge of the curved sclerite to the tip each blade is about 4 times as long as its maximum width. The medial edge of each blade is curved, the outer almost straight. Outer face of each blade with numerous large circular sensilla. In side view they appear like small cupules. The paraproct body is barely shorter than the ventral vesicle.

Female. The ovipositor extends to the tip of the cerci ( Figs 20, 21 View FIGURES 18 – 24 ). The subgenital plate of S8 grows narrower over most of its length, it is finely pilose. The tip with two large terminal setae is softer than the rest and often slightly retracted. The caudal prolongation of S9 is narrower, its sparse pilosity is barely detectable.

Notes. Recognized from the description by the characteristic considerable length of the ovipositor. Ninety-five percent of the 183 specimens in the Malaise traps near Manantenina belong to M. descarpentriesi , 55% were males.
