Comment. The original description of M. scutellaris is based on a single specimen from " Turquie " ( Fauvel 1900); the locality is not specified. The species was later recorded also from Adana by Bordoni (1971). Both the description and the illustrations of the holotype of Lepidophallus denticulatus ( Bordoni 2004) leave no doubt that it is conspecific with M. scutellaris , a conclusion confirmed by an examination of the holotype of L. denticulatus , which was collected in Antalya province. Lepidophallus denticulatus is consequently a junior synonym of M. scutellaris .

The distribution of this species is apparently confined to southern Anatolia and adjacent islands ( Fig. 108 ). The specimens from Rhodos represent the first records from Greece.
