( fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A–E)
Material examined. Holotype male, Mill Creek at Fern Gully, 46° 53.616 S 168° 0 6.412 E, alt. 32 m asl, 29-xii- 2014 ( MONZ) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: 1 female (MONZ), 1 female, one male ( RMNH), same data as holotype. GoogleMaps
Diagnosis. Male: Genital field bulging, IV-leg-6 stocky. Female: Large irregular reticulation of dorsum.
Description. Characters as for the genus given by Cook (1983). Idiosoma pale yellowish, posteromedial plate and legs pale rose. Integument rugose, dorsal plates with irregularly shaped reticulation. First coxae pointed, extending far beyond anterior idiosoma margin. Suture lines of coxae incomplete. Swimming setae absent. Male: Idiosoma ventrally 421 (413) long and 259 (259) wide; dorsal shield 290 (284) long. Gonopore field bulging, 22 long; acetabula numerous, but difficult to see in ventral view. Excretory pore terminal. Lengths of P1-P5: 19, 36, 22, 50, 24. P2 ventrally with two teeth, P4 stocky. Lengths of I-leg-4-6: 54, 60, 66. Length of IV-leg-4-6: 66, 72, 58. IV-leg-6 stocky, IV-leg-5 only slightly modified, with two stout and one thin seta anteroventral setae. Female: Idiosoma ventrally 456 (437) long and 292 (275) wide, dorsal shield 316 (324) long. Gonopore 56 long. Excretory pore halfway between gonopore and posterior idiosoma margin. Length of P1-5: 20, 44, 24, 52, 25. Palp as in male, but P2 with one tooth. Length of I-leg-4-6: 50, 52, 44. Length of IV-leg-4-6: 66, 76, 50.
Etymology. Named after Stewart Island.
Remarks. The new species is similar to P. zodelus , but differs in the bulging gonopore, the stocky IV-leg-6 and a less modified IV-leg-5. The female can be separated from other Paratryssaturus species by the irregularly shaped reticulation of the integument.
