Ecnomina boogoo sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Ecnomina boogoo closely resembles the other five species in this group, but it is distinguished by inferior appendages with relatively short and meso-distally directed digitiform projection, lateral processes of segment IX with about seven relatively long spines apically, and superior appendages in lateral view, relatively broad in apical half.

Description. Head, body and wings light brown; wings similar to E. legula ( Fig. 3 ). Forewing length about 2.9 times width: male 4.5–5.1 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, length about 1.2–1.3 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, with short footstalk, length fork greater than 5.5 times length footstalk, footstalk fork 3 length about 0.8–1.1 times length cross-vein m, r-m and m not contiguous at fork 3 by about 0.7– 0.8 times length cross-vein m; fork 4 shorter than fork 3; fork 5 long, length about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 2.9 times width, fork 2 sessile, length about 1.5–1.6 times length of fork 3.

Male. Segment IX with a pair of long lateral processes with about seven ventrally directed, relatively long bristles or spines. Tergum X membranous ( Fig. 83 ). Superior appendages in lateral view, length about 2.5 times width, not narrowed in distal half ( Fig. 81 ); in dorsal view, fused in basal half, relatively slender in distal half, apices widely separated ( Fig. 83 ); with a few stout spines baso-ventral to base of superior appendages. Phallus generally tube-like, slender, slightly dilated distally ( Fig. 81 ). Inferior appendages slightly dorso-ventrally flattened; in ventral view, fused basally, narrowly separated in distal half, short meso-distally pointed apices ( Fig. 82 ); in lateral view, length about 2.5 times width, tapered slightly distally with short pointed apices ( Fig. 81 ).

Female. Unknown.

Holotype male (specimen CT-444 figured): New South Wales, Grafton (about 29°41'S, 152°56'E), 31 Mar 1963, R. Boswell ( NMV, T-19673).

Other material examined: Victoria. 1 male, Brodribb R., Sardine Ck track, 10 Feb 1980 , Wells and McNamara; 1 male, McKensie R., Princes Hwy bridge, 25 km W Cann River , 27 Jan 1975 , A.N.

Etymology. Boogoo - New South Wales Aboriginal word for long club (long lateral processes of segment IX).

Remarks. Ecnomina boogoo has been collected from three widely separated localities in north-eastern New South Wales and eastern Victoria (latitudinal range 29°41'- 37°33'S).
