Coniceromyia arizonensis Borgmeier

( Figs. 325–326 View FIGURES 325 – 330 )

Coniceromyia arizonensis Borgmeier, 1962: 78 . Refs.: Borgmeier 1963 a: 89, fig. 85.

Material examined. Holotype ♀, USA: Arizona: Oak Creek, 14.vii. 1937, L.D. Christenson col. (USNM). Geographical distribution. Arizona ( U.S.A.).

Comments. Borgmeier (1963 a) described Coniceromyia arizonensis based on a female holotype, diagnosing this species by its M 1 ending far from the wing tip. This feature, however, is considerably widespread in the genus and it is not sufficient alone to separate it from many other species of Coniceromyia . The geographical distribution suggests that males described as C. auristriata Borgmeier may correspond to the female holotype of C. arizonensis . Additional material from the United States and a better sampling of the genus along this distribution would be necessary, however, before any decision concerning synonymizing both species.
