Coniceromyia atricolor Schmitz View in CoL
( Figs. 19–22 View FIGURES 19 – 22 , 144 View FIGURES 139 – 157 , 196 View FIGURES 191 – 202 , 253–254 View FIGURES 252 – 257 )
Coniceromyia atricolor Schmitz, 1929: 14 View in CoL , fig. 8a. Refs.: Borgmeier 1950: 290. Holotype ♂, Chile, Puerto Varas, Casa Pangue (BMNH, not examined).
Diagnosis (male). Hypandrium bare, foremetatarsus without excavation, neither long setae, wing vein R2+3 vestigial.
Material examined. 2♂, CHILE: Osorno: 4.1km E. Anticura: Puyehue National Park, 40.66ºS, 72.14ºW, 19– 26.xii.1982, Malaise trap, 460m, A. Newton & M. Thayer col. ( LACM). GoogleMaps
Hypopygium description ( Figs. 19–22 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ). Hypopygium light brown. Epandrium covered with microtrichia mostly dorsally, proximal lateral areas bare; dorsal and left sutures of the epandrium absent. Left epandrial process very setose on apical half, medially concave. Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct with four setae. Hypandrium bare, without projections.
Geographical distribution. Chile.
Comments. Coniceromyia atricolor does not have some of the features earlier assumed to belong to the groundplan of the genus. This species can be included in Coniceromyia , however, as it has the hind femur strong setulae and the hypopygium left epandrial process characteristic of the genus. This species is probably sister to a clade gathering the remaining species of the genus. This clade probable synapomorphies are the foremetatarsus excavation and anteroventral setulose process.
