Coniceromyia lobipennis Kung & Brown View in CoL
( Figs. 93–96 View FIGURES 93 – 96 , 172 View FIGURES 158 – 173 , 224, 291)
Coniceromyia lobipennis Kung & Brown, 2000b: 84 View in CoL , fig. 3.
Diagnosis (male). Wing emarginated between M1 and M2; hind tibia with four dorsal setae.
Material examined. Holotype ♂, EQUADOR: Napo: Oyacachi , 0.22ºS, 78.08ºW, 5–19.ii.1996, Malaise trap, 3000 m, P. Hibbs col. ( LACM). Paratype: 1♂, same as holotype GoogleMaps .
Hypopygium description ( Figs. 93–96 View FIGURES 93 – 96 ). Hypopygium light brown. Epandrium extensively covered with microtrichia, only small proximal lateral areas bare; epandrial dorsal and left sutures present. Left epandrial process dorsally setose, with a medial projection near apex and a subepandrial medial setulose projection near base ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 93 – 96 , black arrow). Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct with three setae. Right lobe of hypandrium without projections.
Geographical distribution. Known from a single high elevation site in Ecuador.
Comments. Coniceromyia lobipennis is the only species of the genus with more than two hind tibia dorsal setae. This condition is also found in species of some other Phorinae genera, such as Neopleurophora and Plethysmochaeta . This condition is probably independently derived in C. lobipennis , as this species possibly is not sister to the remaining species of the genus (see discussion under C. atricolor ).
