Parachtes riberai Bosmans View in CoL new species
Figs 7 View FIGURES 1 – 7 , 33–41 View FIGURES 33 – 41
Type material. Holotype ♂, 2 ♀♀ paratypes from Spain, Majorca, Cala Sant Vicenc (39°55’9’’N 13°3’15’’E), 9.III.1971, D. J. Clarke leg.; deposited at BMNH.
Diagnosis. From the shape of the bulbus with basal cylindrical part and bent, terminally truncate distal part, Parachtes riberai n. sp. is closely related to Parachtes cantabrorum ( Simon, 1914) from the Western and Central Pyrénées. The description of this species is extremely short, but drawings of the male palp are characteristic ( Simon 1914; Alicata 1966a). Females can be distinguished by the shape of their elongated spermathecae and wide transversal bar.
Etymology. The first author dedicates this species to his good friend Carles Ribera, for his important contributions to knowledge about Spanish spiders.
Description. Measurements. Male (n=2): Total length 6.8–7.7; prosoma 3.41–2.92 long, 2.71–2.28 wide, width of head 1.32; height of clypeus 0.90–0.94; chelicera 1.13–1.15 long, claw 0.68–0.74 long. Female (n=4): Total length 8.6–9.6; prosoma 2.46–2.92 long, 2.87–3.32 long.
Colour: Prosoma and chelicerae dark brown in live specimens, thoracic region somewhat paler (fig. 7), reddish brown in alcohol preserved specimens (figs 33–34); sternum and legs orange brown; opisthosoma olive to yellowish brown in live specimens fading to grey in alcohol.
Prosoma: AM separated by half their diameter, from AL by by the same distance; PM separated by ¼ their diameter.
Chelicerae: Anterior margin of fang groove with 4 teeth, posterior margin with 1 tooth.
Leg measurements (holotype male):
Length of bulbus: 0.76. Spination (holotype): The second male has a group of 3 prolateral spines on Ti I, all females have 2 prolateral spines on Ti I.
Male palp (figs 35–38): Basal two third of bulbus oval, distal part gradually narrowing and bent in anterior direction at an angle of 120°, tip recurved, terminally truncate.
Epigastric fold region (fig. 39): A narrow, longitudinal darker area visible in transparency.
Vulva (figs 40–41): Spermatheca elongated, basal third narrower than distal two third, with oval transverse basal plate; anterior basal arch oval, transversal bar much wider, laterally bent.
Further material examined. Majorca: Cúber, track along reservoir towards Coll de l’Ofre (39° 46' 11.5'', 2° 46' 4.4'') 800 m, 1 ♂, litter in rocky steppe with sparse bushes, herbs and grass tussocks, 4.IV.2016 (CJL); Lluc, outside Cova de sa Cometa des Morts (39° 49' 42.0'', 2° 53' 25.3'') 540 m, 1 juvenile, litter in rocksteppe with sparse pines, herbs and grass tussocks, 4.IV.2016 (CJL); Parc natural de s’Albufera (39°47'53'' N 3°6'27''E), 10m, 1♀, litter at border of salt marsh, 3.IV.2003 (CRB); Pollença, vicinity of Cova Morella (30°12'58.8'' N 49°3'45.5''E), 505 m, 2 ♂♂ 3 ♀♀, area with sparse pines, herbs and grass tussocks, 23.IV.2014 (CJL); Pollença, Puig de Santa Maria (39°51'36'N 3°5'55''E), 180m, 1 ♂, seeving litter in Quercus forest, 21.III.2015 (CRB); Valldemossa S., Torrent d’Avall (39°42'38''N 2°37'18''E), 420m, 1♀, stones in Quercus forest, 4.IV.2003 (CRB).
Distribution. A species endemic to Majorca. It is certainly the undescribed Parachtes species from Majorca, mentioned in Bidegaray-Batista & Arnedo (2011).
