Comments. Harpactea corticalis (Simon, 1882) gave the name to the largest species group of Harpactea , the corticalis group. This species was originally described from Corsica and was later also cited from Algeria and Tunisia (Simon 1910), continental France ( Simon 1914), Italy ( Alicata 1966b), Austria ( Wiehle & Franz 1954) and the Baleares ( Orghidan et al. 1975; Gines 1982). Males from this group have very similar, simple palps, with oval bulbus and pointed embolus accompanied by a membrane and are difficult to distinguish ( Bosselaers & Van Keer 2016). In recent research, almost all Harpactea species appear to have small distribution areas and all citations of H. corticalis must be reconsidered. Bosmans & Beladjal (1990) have already given proof that all records from North Africa are misidentifications. As we only found H. dufouri in Majorca , the records of H. corticalis by Orghidan et al. (1975) and ( Gines 1982) as the only species of Harpactea in Majorca are attributed to H. dufouri . Pons & Palmer (1996) also presumed these identifications were incorrect and H. corticalis is therefore deleted from the island’s list.
