Dactylogyrus titus Guégan, Lambert & Euzet, 1988 View in CoL

( Figure 3 View FIGURE 3 )

Type host and locality: Labeo coubie , Niger River (Bamako), Mali.

Other record: Labeo coubie, Baoulé River (Missira), Mali ( Guégan et al. 1988).

Present records: Labeo coubie , Gambia River near the hotel Simenti (sand beach 13° 01.543’N; 13º 17.471’W, gravel beach 13º 01.395’N; 13º 17.350’W), Mare de Simenti (13º 01.790’N; 13º 17.608’W), Gambia River near the Campement du Lion (13º 01.493’N; 13º 14.491’W), Niokolo-Koba National Park, Senegal.

Site: Gill lamellae.

Type specimen: Holotype MNHN HC 266.

Material examined: 8 unflattened and 11 flattened specimens in GAP.

Description: Body length 307 (277–348; n = 8); greatest width 65 (52–110; n = 8). Haptor 56 (43–67; n = 8) long, 106 (93–136; n = 8) wide. Single pair of anchors (dorsal): inner length 39 (38–42; n = 10); outer length 26 (25–27; n = 10); inner root 17 (17–19; n = 10) long; outer root 2 (1–3; n = 10) long; point 14 (11–15; n = 10) long. One bar (dorsal): 22 (20–23; n = 10) long, 2 (2–3; n = 10) wide. Hooks 7 pairs, similar in shape and size; hook lengths 16 (15–17; n = 11). Needles (1 pair) located near hooks of pair V. Vagina nonsclerotized. Copulatory organ composed of tube and articulated accessory piece; total length 20 (16–22; n = 10); tube trace-length 27 (26–29; n = 10).

Remarks: Dactylogyrus titus is confused easily with D. retroversus based on the similarities of both the haptoral sclerotized structures and the copulatory organ. Features distinguishing these two species are mentioned in the remarks of the latter species.
