Type Locality: Argentina, Tucumán Prov., Los Cardones (26 o 40’S, 65 o 51’W) 2,500 m GoogleMaps .
Vernacular Names: Scaglia's Tuco-tuco.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
Discussion: Contreras (1999) concluded that this taxon is related to a primitive stem of the genus including C. opimus – C. pundit – C. talarum . The karyotype attributed to C. knighti with a 2n=36 and FN=64 ( Reig et al., 1992) are from representatives of this species.
