Choeras Mason, 1981 : 76. Type species: Apanteles (Pseudapanteles) consimilis Viereck, 1911: 177 View in CoL , by original designation, Holotype ♀, Long Island , New York, USA, Ashmead collection [USNM].
van Achterberg (2002) and Song et al. 2014 treated Choeras as a subgenus of Apanteles Foerster, 1863 View in CoL . However, Austin & Dangerfield (1992), Chen & Song (2004), Fernandez-triana et al. (2014) and Fernandez-triana & van Achterberg (2017) considered Choeras as a valid genus. Ghafouri Moghaddam et al. (2018) studied the Iranian Choeras and described a new species. Fagan-Jeffries & Austin (2018) presented a synopsis of Choeras from Australasia and described two new species.
Diagnosis: Members of this genus are diagnosed by having propodeum usually with median longitudinal carina (which can be more or less defined) or carina absent, never with any indication of an areola and surface smooth to coarsely rugose; T1 and T2 rugose to rugulose, sometimes largely smooth; T1 parallel-sided or sub parallel-sided (i.e., barrel shaped or narrowed posteriorly); T2 rectangular to subrectangular; areolet in fore wing small or large (open or closed) or absent; hypopygium often membranous, flexible and relatively large; ovipositor sheaths at least 0.50× as long as (usually longer) metatibia.
