Ampullaria libyca Morelet, 1848: 354 . Type material — syntypes: MCZ 78074 (1 spm.), MNHN 4610 (3 spms.) and MNHN 4611 (2 spms.) ( Cowie & Héros 2012: 807 ), NHMUK 1893.2.4.1813–1816 (4 spms.), SMF 344088 (4 spms.). Type locality —“ Gabon ”. Distribution —coast of Guinea ( Nevill 1885: 14), Gambia and Gabon ( Gaudion 1880: 33), West Africa, coastal region from Ivory Coast to Gabon ( Brown 1980: 51, 1994: 61); east coast of Africa ( Gaudion 1880: 33; error).

Remarks. Valid species, teste Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 187), Brown (1980: 51, 1994: 60) and Berthold (1991: 246), who all placed it in Lanistes s. str., and Cowie & Héros (2012: 807) , who simply placed it in Lanistes . Sometimes misspelled “ lybicus ” or “ lybica ” (e.g. Schaufuss 1869: 55; Dupuis & Putzeys 1902: 51; Germain 1907d: 535; G.B. Sowerby III 1916: 67; Pilsbry & Bequaert 1927: 183). Type species of Libyciana Bourguignat, here treated as a synonym of Lanistes Montfort.

luapulensis

Lanistes ellipticus Var. γ. luapulensis Furtado, 1886: 151. Type material — holotype [by monotypy: “un exemplaire unique”]: MNHN 4714 ( Cowie & Héros 2012: 807 ). Type locality —“Rivière Luapula” [ Zambia or Democratic Republic of the Congo].

Remarks. Synonym of ovum Troschel [as “Peters”], teste Mandahl-Barth (1968: 31), followed here. Valid subspecies of ellipticus Martens , teste Cowie & Héros (2012: 807) .
