Ampullaria balanoidea Gould, 1850: 196 View in CoL . Type material — lectotype ( Johnson 1964: 45): MCZ 169054; paralectotype: USNM 611247. Type locality —“Grand Cape Mount, Liberia ”. Distribution —from Liberia to the Democratic Republic of the Congo ( Binder 1963: 13), but only Liberia, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone listed by Brown (1980: 55, 1994: 66).

Remarks. Figured by Petit de la Saussaye (1851: 267, pl. 7, fig. 8; as “ balenoidea ”) and by Reeve ( 1856 e: pl. 27, figs. 129a, b), who attributed the name to “Gould, MS., Mus. Hanley”.

Afropomus balanoideus nimbae Binder, 1963: 13 View in CoL , fig. 1. Type material — lectotype ( Cowie & Héros 2012: 810 View in CoL ): MNHN 4497; paralectotypes: MNHN 4456 (1 spm.), MNHN 4495 (5 spms., in alcohol), MNHN 4496 (1 spm.), MNHN 4498 (1 spm.). Type locality —“Dans le Gouan” [restricted on designation of the lectotype by Cowie & Héros (2012: 810) View in CoL from the original published localities of the syntype series]. Distribution —Mont Nimba, Republic of Guinea ( Binder 1963: 14).
