Sericothrips Haliday View in CoL
Sericothrips Haliday, 1836: 444 View in CoL . Type-species Sericothrips staphylinus View in CoL by monotypy.
Sussericothrips Han, 1991: 208 -211. Type-species Sussericothrips melilotus Han. View in CoL syn.n.
The nine species in this genus all have the abdominal tergites completely covered with microtrichia medially, a character state that correlates with each of these species being known to produce micropterous adults. The structural similarities between the species seem likely to be related more to this short-winged condition than to any phylogenetic relationship. In two of these species, S. kaszabi Pelikan and S. melilotus Han View in CoL , tergal discal setae pair III are described as arising at the margin (or on an indentation of the margin), rather than on the tergal surface. This character state was used to distinguish the genus Sussericothrips that is here placed as a synonym.
