Medinodexia Townsend, 1927: 57 View in CoL . Type species: Medinodexia fulviventris Townsend, 1927 View in CoL , by original designation.

Recognition (male and female). Head dichoptic, male vertex approximately 0.2 of head width, wider in female; outer vertical seta weak or absent; inner vertical seta well developed; ocellar setae present; 9 – 12 frontal setae, the uppermost 2 weakly reclinate, the lowermost nearly reaching level of base of first flagellomere; proclinate orbital setae absent in male, 2 in female; parafacial bare; face distinctly concave, lower facial margin not produced forward in lateral view; vibrissa arising nearly at level of lower facial margin; facial ridge with a few fine setae in lower part; occiput developed, upper occiput with a row of black setae behind postocular setae; compound eye bare. Antenna falling short of lower facial margin by less than length of pedicel; arista bare, thickened on basal part.

Thorax. Black in ground color, with dense grayish-white pruinosity on posterior parts of presutural and postsutural areas of scutum. Two postpronotal setae; proepisternum bare; prosternum usually setulose; 2 presutural and 2 – 3 postsutural acrostichal setae; 2 presutural and 2 postsutural dorsocentral setae; 2 katepisternal setae; anatergite with some setulae; scutellum with 3 pairs of marginal setae: basal and lateral setae present, subapical setae long, approximately 3 times as long as scutellum. Postcoxal bridge weakly sclerotized. Wing hyaline; tegula and basicosta black or blackish-brown. Second costal sector bare ventrally; vein R 4+5 with 1 – 2 setae dorsally at base and 0 – 1 setae ventrally at base. Legs. Black in ground color. Fore tibia with 1 – 2 posterior setae; mid tibia with 1 anterodorsal, 2 posterodorsal and 1 ventral setae; female hind coxa and trochanter each with two blunt setae on ventral part; hind tibia with 2 anterodorsal, 2 posterodorsal and 2 ventral setae, and with 2 preapical dorsal setae. Claws and pulvilli long.

Abdomen. Black or brown in ground color. Syntergite 1+2 with excavation not reaching hind margin; tergites 3 – 5 with several marginal setae; median discal setae on tergite 3 – 5 present in male, absent in female; male sternite 5 with median cleft shallow, with some setae on posterior lobes.

Male postabdomen. Epandrium nearly fan-shaped, with some short setae posteriorly in lateral view; surstylus fused with epandrium at base, apical 1/3 nearly triangular in lateral view; cercus longer than surstylus, broad in basal part in lateral view, divided in apical part in dorsal view; pregonite short and rounded apically, without setae; postgonite slightly shorter than pregonite, curved ventrally at apex; epiphallus present; distiphallus nearly oval and bearing some spinules ventrally, with a small membranous part dorsoapically.

Female postabdomen. Sternite 5 nearly subrectangular, with some setae; tergite 6 very narrow, with a few long setae and with a pair of anterior invaginations; sternite 6 rather narrow, with a pair of long and some short setae and with an anterior invagination broad and sharply keeled medially; spiracles 6 – 7 located on tergite 6; tergite 7 and sternite 7 mostly fused and forming a sharply pointed piercer in posteroventral portion; sternite 7 with an anterior invagination; segment 8 strongly reduced.
