Camptophora schimae H. Yang & K.D. Hyde View in CoL , sp. nov. Figure. 4 View FIGURE 4

Facesoffungi number: FoF 03409; Index Fungorum number: IF554237

Etymology:—refers to the host plant genus Schima . Holotype:— China, Yunnan Province, on leaves, December 3, 2012, IFRD 9050.

Description:—Saprobic on sugar exudates from insects or foliar epiphytes growing on the upper surface of living leaves forming soot-like coating ( Figure 4A View FIGURE 4 ). Mycelium superficial, black, hyphae dark brown, reticulate-branched, constricted at the septa ( Figure 4B View FIGURE 4 ). Ascomata 98–110 μm diam, 89–102 μm high (x =104 × 93 μm, n=10), black,

scattered on surface of living leaves, subglobose to globose, with short stalk, lacking setae and ostiole. Perdium 16–22 μm wide (x =19 μm, n=20), inwardly hyaline of textura prismatica, dark brown towards the outside, comprised textura angularis ( Figure 4C View FIGURE 4 ). Asci 52–57 × 20–29 μm (x =54 × 24 μm, n=20) 8-spored, bitunicate, ovoid to obpyriform, with short stem ( Figure 4D,E View FIGURE 4 ). Ascospores 23–30 × 7–10 μm (x =27 × 8 μm, n=30), hyaline, fusiform, phragmospore or muriform, with 3–5 transversal septa and 1–4 longitudinal septa, constricted at the septum, with guttula, narrow at the ends ( Figure 4F,G View FIGURE 4 ). Ascospores germinating on PDA within 24 h, mostly from two end cells, rarely germinating from the central cells ( Figure 4H View FIGURE 4 ).

Material examined:— CHINA, Yunnan Province, Puer, on living leaves of Schima wallichii (DC.) Choisy, 3

December 2012, Yang Hui, PE19 (IFRD 9050, holotype), ex-type living culture =IFRDCC2664.

Sequence data:—ITS= MF285231, LSU= MF285233

Notes: This species is morphologically closely related to Camptophora hylomeconis . Our new species differs from C. hylomeconis by having larger asci (x =54 × 24 μm vs x =35 × 18 μm) and larger ascospores (x =27 × 8 μm vs x =15

× 5 μm). The ascospores are fusiform, phragmosporous or muriform, with 3–5 transversal septa and 1–4 longitudinal septa whereas the ascospores of C. hylomeconis are obovoid to pyriform, phragmosporous or didymosporous, with

1–3 transversal septa. Asexual morph was observed in culture. The phylogenetic analysis ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) shows that our new species is closely related to C. hylomeconis but is a distinct species within Camptophora .
