Cyphellophora jingdongensis H. Yang & K.D. Hyde View in CoL , sp. nov. Figure 2 View FIGURE 2

Facesoffungi number: FoF 03410; Index Fungorum number: IF554236

Etymology:—Refers to the location “Jingdong” where the holotype was collected.

Holotype:— China, Yunnan Province, on leaves, October 15, 2012, IFRD 9049 View Materials .

Description:—Saprobic on honey dew excretions from insects or foliar epiphytes on living leaves with dark mycelium without penetrating host tissues, leaves remaining green and healthy ( Figure 2A View FIGURE 2 ). Mycelium superficial,

yellowish-brown to brown, hyphae reticulate-branched, constricted, pale brown to brown ( Figure 2B View FIGURE 2 ). Ascomata up to 135–158 μm diam, 103–113 μm high (x =145 × 110 μm, n=10), scattered, subglobose to globose, dark brown, thick-walled, ostiole inconspicuous. Peridium 19–27 μm wide (x =21 μm, n=20), composed of textura angularis and globulosa in the outer region, becoming brown to hyaline in the inner region ( Figure 2B–D View FIGURE 2 ). Asci 64–85 × 12–17 μm (x =70 × 14 μm, n=20), 8-spored, ellipsoidal to cylindrical, with a short pedicel, apparently bitunicate ( Figure 2E, F View FIGURE 2 ). Ascospores 16–24 × 5–7 μm (x =18 × 5.6 μm, n=20) μm, biseriate, hyaline, fusoid, 1–3 septate, not constricted at the septa, narrowly round at the ends ( Figure 2G, H View FIGURE 2 ). Ascospores germinating on PDA within 24 h and germ tubes arise from one end cell ( Figure 2I View FIGURE 2 ).

Material examined:— CHINA, Yunnan Province, Jingdong, on living leaves of Alnus nepalensis , 15 October 2012, Yang Hui, YJ05 (IFRD 9049, holotype), ex-type living culture=IFRDCC2659.

Notes:—Asexual morph was not observed in culture. We did not compare the morphological characteristics of C. jingdongensis with those of closely related taxa, because this is the first record of the sexual morph of this species as well as of any sexual morph within the genus itself. Nonetheless, the phylogenetic tree ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) shows that C. jingdongensis is a distinct new species in the genus Cyphellophora .

Camptophora hylomeconis (Crous, de Hoog & H.D. Shin) , Réblová & Unter., PLoS ONE 8(5): e63547, 14 (2013) Figure 3 View FIGURE 3

Facesoffungi number: FoF 03408

Description:—Foliar epiphytes growing on the upper surface of living leaves forming soot-like coatings ( Figure 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Mycelium superficial, dark brown, hyphae-like dark brown, reticulate to branched, constricted at the septa ( Figure 3B View FIGURE 3 ). Ascomata 112–120 μm diam, 94–101 μm high (x =115 × 99 μm, n=10), black, scattered on surface of living leaves, globose to subglobose, lacking setae, without ostiole. Perdium 18–27 μm wide (x =23 μm, n=20), dark brown, comprised of textura angularis, hyaline at the inside, comprised 3–4 layers of textura prismatica ( Figure 3B–D View FIGURE 3 ). Asci 32–38 × 16–21 μm (x =35 × 18 μm, n=20) 8-spored, bitunicate, long-ellipsoid to obovoid ( Figure 3E,G View FIGURE 3 ). Ascospores 12–17 × 4–6 μm (x =15 × 5 μm, n=30), overlapping, hyaline, obovoid to pyriform, phragmosporae or didymosporae, with 1–3 transversal septa, constricted at the septum, narrow at the bottom end, with guttulate ( Figure 3F,H View FIGURE 3 ). Ascospores germinating on PDA within 24 h, germ tubes develop from both end cells ( Figure 3I View FIGURE 3 ).

Material examined:— CHINA, Yunnan Province, Zhen Yuan, on living leaf of Musa basjoo , 16 November 2012, Yang Hui, ZY19-1 (IFRD409-043), living culture = IFRDCC2661.

Sequence data:—ITS= MF285228, LSU= MF285230

Notes:—The asexual morph of this species was isolated from leaves of Hylomecon verlance in South Korea, but the sexual morph was previously unknown.Asexual morph was not observed in culture so we couldn’t compare it with morphological characteristics of asexual and sexual morphs, but phylogenetic analysis ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) strongly confirmed that our strain is Camptophora hylomeconis .
