Diagnosis. This species is externally similar to C. ibipennella Zeller, 1849 , and C. betulella Heinemann, 1876 , and can also be compared with C. zelleriella Heinemann, 1854 , and C. quercicola Baldizzone & Oku, 1990 , due to the similarity in genitalia, especially the ductus bursae with the median lamina without spines in the female genitalia. However, it can be distinguished from the above mentioned species by the following genital characteristics: 1) in the male genitalia of C. currucipennella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GM XXX, Fig. 95), male genitalia possess relatively short cucullus, the sacculus with the dorsal tooth directed inward and a dentate triangular ventral corner expansion, while in C. ibipennella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GM XXX, Fig. 97), male genitalia possess the sacculus with only one triangular expansion having a bunt apex at the ventral corner, in C. betulella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GM XXX, Fig. 96) male genitalia possess the sacculus with a smaller tooth at the dorsal corner and a triangular expansion having a rounded apex at the ventral corner, in C. zelleriella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GM XXXI, Fig. 100), male genitalia possess the sacculus with only one triangular tooth at the ventral corner, and in C. quercicola ( Figs 15G, H View FIGURE 15 ), male genitalia possess the sacculus with a rounded distal margin having a triangular tooth in the middle; 2) in the female genitalia of C. currucipennella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GF XXXII, Fig. 96), the following characters are diagnostic: a wide ostium bursae, the ductus bursae with the median lamina and without the spinulate section, while in C. ibipennella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GF XXXIII, Fig. 98) and C. betulella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GF XXXIII, Fig. 97), female genitalia have a narrower ostium bursae, and the ductus bursae with the median lamina and the spinulate section, and in C. zelleriella (see Baldizzone 2019: Pl. GF XXXIV, Fig. 101) and C. quercicola ( Fig. 19B View FIGURE 19 ), female genitalia are with a narrower ostium bursae.

Adult: ( Benander 1939: wingspan 15.0–17.0 mm; Toll 1953: wingspan 11.0–17.0 mm; Baldizzone 2019: wingspan 13.0–15.0 mm). See Kim & Park (2009: Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ); Park (2014: Pl. for adults, Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ); Baldizzone (2019: Pl. AD XV, Fig. 98).

Male genitalia: See Benander (1939: Pl. II, Fig. 35); Hackman (1945: Fig. 79); Toll (1953: Fig. 75); Patzak (1974: Fig. 165); Park & Baldizzone (1992: Figs 4, 4a View FIGURE 4 ); Kim & Park (2009: Figs 31–31b); Park (2014: Figs 6A–C View FIGURE 6 ); Baldizzone (2019: Pl. GM XXX, Fig. 95).

Female genitalia: See Hackman (1945: Fig. 90); Toll (1953: Fig. 232); Patzak (1974: Fig. 291); Park & Baldizzone (1992: Figs 17, 17c View FIGURE 17 ); Kim & Park (2009: Fig, 51); Park (2014: Fig. 6E View FIGURE 6 ); Baldizzone (2019: Pl. GF XXXII, Fig. 96).

Larval case [leaf miner (early) and skeletonizer (late)]: Pistol case. See Benander (1939: Pl. VIII, Fig. 12 View FIGURE12 ); Hering (1957: Fig. 397); Toll (1962: Pl. 13 S, Fig. 162); Patzak (1974: Fig. 35); Chalmers-Hunt (1987: Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ); Baldizzone (2019: Pl. AST XII, Fig. 90).

Host plants. [ Fagaceae ] Quercus L., Fagus L.; [ Betulaceae ] Carpinus L. ( Ca. betulus L.), Betula L., Corylus L. ( Cor . avellana L.); [ Ulmaceae ] Ulmus L.; [ Salicaceae ] Salix L., Populus L.; [ Rosaceae ] Pyrus L., and Prunus L. ( Baldizzone 1979a; Falkovitsh 2006; Baldizzone 2019).
