Type material. Holotype. Brazil: Santa Catarina (Garopada 28°01’36.2”S, 48°36’48.0”W), 12–15. III.2001, M.P. Barros leg., 1M ( MCN 33781). Collected by pitfall-trap. GoogleMaps

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the type locality.

Diagnosis. The male of Euryopis catarinensis n. sp. is similar to that of Euryopis camis (see Levi, 1963, fig. 19) but differs from this latter species by having the median apophysis more rounded with the posterior margin sclerotized, while the median apophysis is elongated in the later; by the different course of the ducts in the tegulum, medially positioned ( Fig. 8D View FIGURE 8 ), while the spermatic duct is positioned basally in the E. camis (see Levi, 1963, fig. 19).

Description. Male holotype (MCN 33781). Total length 1.99. Carapace length 0.92, width 0.73, clypeus height 0.31. Sternum length 0.42, width 0.42. Abdomen length 1.07, width 0.86, height 0.58. Leg formula IV/I/II/ III; segment length (I/II/III/IV): femora 0.56/0.52/0.48/0.63; patellae+tibiae 0.63/0.56/0.58/0.79; metatarsi+tarsi 0.63/0.56/0.54/0.73; total 1.82/1.64/1.60/2.15. Carapace oval ( Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7 ), dark reddish brown. Chelicerae ( Fig. 7C View FIGURE 7 ) reddish brown. Ocular region ( Fig. 7C View FIGURE 7 ) slightly pronounced, eyes with black margins. Eye diameter and interdistances: AME 0.04, PME 0.04, ALE 0.06, PLE 0.06, AME–AME 0.06, AME–ALE 0.02, PME–PME 0.06, PME–PLE 0.04. Sternum ( Fig. 7B View FIGURE 7 ) lighter than the carapace, with darkened edges. Abdomen oval ( Figs 7A, B View FIGURE 7 ), dorsal view orange brown, slightly lighter than the carapace, and darkened edges ( Figs 7A, D View FIGURE 7 ). In ventral view, the abdomen has a uniform orange-brown color, with dark pigmentation on the laterals. Spinnerets yellow. Palp with embolus ( Fig. 8D View FIGURE 8 ) not sclerotized; median apophysis rounded with spermatic duct 8-shaped, cymbium oval in dorsal view without apical projection; ventrally, duct in the tegulum as an inverted “S” ( Fig. 8D View FIGURE 8 ).
