Genus GESTROANA Berg, 1898 View in CoL
Gestroa Bolívar, 1898:68 View in CoL (nomen preoccupied by Gectroa Pini, 1876 in Mollusca).
Gestroana Berg, 1898: 42 View in CoL (new name for Gestroa Bolívar, 1898 View in CoL ) – Hancock 1907: 18; Kirby 1910: 11; Blackith 1992:81; Yin et al. 1996: 872; Otte 1997: 21; Tumbrinck 2014: 361 (diagnosis), 371 (key to species).
Type species. Gestroa discoidea Bolívar, 1898 , by monotypy.
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS — Gestroana is most similar to the genera Tondanotettix Willemse, 1928 (two species from Sulawesi Island) and Cladonotella Hancock, 1909 (four species from New Guinea and Java) but it differs from former in the straight lower side of the lateral lobes of the posterior process of the pronotum (in Tondanotettix , the lower side strongly curved) and from latter in the antennae situated considerably below the lower margins of the eyes, i.e. more than one diameter of an antennal socket (in Cladonotella , the antennae are situated slightly below the lower margin of eyes, i.e. less than half of diameter of an antennal socket) ( Tumbrinck 2014).
COMPOSITION — The genus consists of 16 species endemic to New Guinea, one of which is described below.
