Diagnosis. Among the Colletes species found in Xizang, females of C. floralis are unique in having the combination of mesoscutum covered mostly with pale-orange hairs and T2–T3 apical bands 1.75× MOD in lateral view. Males can be recognized through the following set of features: facial and mesosomal black hairs present, malar area 1.25× as long as basal width of mandible and hind basitarsus 5.0× as long as broad. Colletes floralis most closely resembles C. packeri , but their females can be distinguished by the hind basitarsus with pale setae in the former (hind basitarsus with dark setae in the latter) and T1 with irregularly sparse punctures (i=1.0–1.5 d) medially in the former (T1 with evenly dense (i=0.5 d) punctures in the latter). Males of C. floralis are distinct in that the malar is 1.25× as long as basal width of mandible (malar 0.75× as long as basal width of mandible in C. packeri ) and the gonostylus is nearly straight dorsally (gonostylus concave dorsally in C. packeri ).

Distribution. Widespread in the Palaearctic region, particularly in higher latitudes and in mountain regions in the south, ranging from the Iberian Peninsula to as far east as Japan.
DNA barcode. Available (3 ♀ and 1 ♂). See also Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 and Table 1.
Floral hosts. Brassicaceae : Brassica rapa L.; Tamaricaceae : Tamarix sp.
Remarks. Males from the western and easternmost records for C. floralis within China (Xinjiang and Hebei provinces, respectively) exhibit very little morphological variation among themselves, including the shape of their S7.
