Diagnosis. Thecomparisonofthisnewspecieswithitsclosestrelative, N. octogesima , isgivenundertheDiagnosisofthatspecies. Thebestdistinctiveexternalfeaturesof N. laoana arethelessprominentreniformstigma, the moreyellowishsuffusedbasalpartofbothwings, andthemoredistinctly markedyellowsubterminallines. Thekeyfeaturesofthemalegenitaliaare thestraightandapicallybifurcatecornutus, thelackofscobinationofvesica, thelargerandmorebird-head-likesclerotisedendofcostawithlongerand moreacuteventralextensionandthefiner, thinnervinculum. Thefemale genitaliaof N. laoana areeasilyseparablefromthoseof N. octogesima bythe shorterandthinner, membranousductusbursaewithshorteranteriorpocketlikeextension, andthelessscobinatecorpusbursae.
Themalegenitaliaof N. laoana resemblethoseof N. abnormalis buthave narrower, longeruncusandscaphium, muchlongersaccus, muchmoredevelopedcosta, muchbroaderdistalpartofsacculusandsmallerharpe.
