Trischistoma pellucidum (Type species)
Synonym
Measurements (after Andrássy 1968)
Females (n = 2): L = 680–850 µm; a = 36–43; b = 4.1–4.6; c = 13–14; V = 73–74% Male: Not known
Description (after Brzeski & Winiszewska-Ślipińska 1993)
Cuticle very thin, 0.6–0.8 μm. Head diameter 12–14 μm. Six long outer labial setae 6–7 μm, four short cephalic setae 3–4μm. Stoma very narrow with very small dorsal tooth, amphid aperture at level of dorsal tooth. Oesophagus length 155 μm. Body diameter 18 μm. Length of the gonads 8–9 times body diameter. Tail length 53 μm, or 3–4 times anal body diameter.
Diagnosis and Relationships
Trischistoma pellucidum differs from T. otaika sp. nov., T. monohystera and T. equatoriale in lacking a postvulval uterine sac and having a shorter body (680–850 μm vs 1215–1326 μm, 1500–2100 μm & 1370–1620 μm, respectively).
Females of T. pellucidum are similar to those of T. triregius sp. nov., T. gracile , T. waiotama sp. nov. and T. tukorehe sp. nov. in lacking a postvulval uterine sac. However, T. pellucidum has a shorter body than T. gracile and T. tukorehe sp. nov. (680–850 μm vs 1000–1200 μm & 1088–1149 μm). T. gracile has a shorter oesophagus than T. triregius sp. nov. (155 μm vs 171 μm) and is thinner (de Man’s ratio a 36–43 vs 30–37). T. pellucidum has a shorter oesophagus (155 μm vs 188 μm) and different vulval position (V 76 vs 79–83) than T. waiotama sp. nov..
