Material examined. Tarapacá: 11♂, 10♀, south Chiapa , Tarapacá Province, 23.IV.1969, Leg. L.E. Peña ( MEUC) .

World distribution. Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
Chilean distribution. Only recorded from Tarapacá region ( Fig. 146 View FIGURE 146 ).
Altitudinal range. This species has been recorded inhabiting highland ecosystems (3,500 -3,800 m.a.s.l.).
Biology and notes. Copestylum smithae is here reported from Chile for the first time and associated with native flora from the Andes highlands ecosystems in the Puna province ( Morrone 2014). Larvae of C. smithae has been associated with Opuntia cacti by Rotheray et al. (2009).
Conservation status. DD; AOO = 2 km 2 and one locality (or subpopulation).
