Range: — Costa Rica; Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP), southeastern Brazil.
Ecology: —Rare; terrestrial in humid forests; to 1700 m.
Notes: —Buds are sometimes borne in axils of proximal pinnae. In Peru (many specimens seen) and Bolivia (rare), this species is characterized by large fronds (pinnae to 30 × 8 cm, with only 1–2(3) pairs of lateral pinnae, often only 1 or 2 pairs free), often dark (blackened) petioles, long-decurrent blade apices, irregular arrangement of small sori between the main lateral veins, and small indusia.
