Diagnosis. This species is similar to A. congoensis and A. kahuzianus sp. nov. by having short protruding genae, but can be distinguished from them by the larger male pygophore and shorter antennae.
Description. Surface glabrous, colouration uniformly reddish brown. Head slightly longer than wide (16/ 15.5); genae shorter than antennal segment I, contiguous at apex; antennae 1.4 times as long as width of head, segments I/II/III/IV = 6/3.5/6.75/5.5; postocular lobes rounded, beset with setigerous tubercles. Thorax with pronotum. 3 times as wide as long (22.5/7.5), paranota rounded, reflexed and produced anterolaterally, lateral margins subparallel. Scutellum 2.25 times as wide as long (18/8). Mtg I+II raised medially to level of scutellum with a rhomboidal smooth depression at middle. Abdomen with median elevation interrupted by the transverse furrow mtg II–mtg III, triangularly depressed on mtg III, carinate on mtg IV then depressed on mtg V; pe-angles of deltg IV–VI slightly produced laterally. Pygophore large, median dorsal ridge widening posteriorly. Female of larger size, abdomen more rounded; head wider than long (17/156); antennae 1.37 times as long as width of head, segments I/II/III/IV = 6.5/3.5/7.5/5.75; paranota more rounded laterally; ptg VIII angular. Measurements: Holotype male: length 3.55 mm; length of antennae 1.05 mm; width of abdomen 1.8 mm. Paratype female: length 4.0 mm; antennae 1.16 mm; with abdomen 2.1 mm.
Etymology. The species epithet is a Latinized Greek mythical name of Idas , an Argonaut, one of very few mortals who got the better of a god being chosen by Marpessa over Apollo; noun in apposition.
Distribution. This species is known from Tanzania: East Usambara Mts. and Nguru Mts.
