Mandevilla guanabarica Casar. ex M.F. Sales, Kin. -Gouv. & A.O. Simões, Novon 16(1): 117, fig. 4. 2006.— Echites ganabarica Casar. ex Müll. Arg. in Mart. et al. (Ed.), Fl. Bras. 6(1): 144. 1860, nom. inval. pro syn. (under Amblyanthera funiformis Müll. Arg. var. peduncularis Müll. Arg. ). Type: Brazil, “ Bahia do Rio de Janeiro, 1857” [sic! 1839], Casaretto Herb. No. 1483 (holotype, G barcode G00169605!]; isotype TO! [without barcode]).
Accepted name: Mandevilla guanabarica Casar. ex M.F. Sales, Kin. -Gouv. & A.O. Simões
Sales et al. (2006) utilized Casaretto’s name “ Echites ganabarica Casar. ” written on the label of a specimen conserved at G, and published Mandevilla guanabarica Casar. ex M.F. Sales, Kin. -Gouv. & A. O. Simões (2006: 117, fig. 4). The spelling of the original epithet was slightly changed to “ guanabarica ” referring to the Baía de Guanabara, as is currently spelled ; although Casaretto wrote the original epithet “ ganabarica ”, as he did for Clusia ganabarica Casaretto (1843e: 60) , and as many maps of the XIX century spelled the name of the bay “Ganabara”. In addition, as already explained above, they erroneously reported the collection year as “1857”, certainly because the herbarium label at G has the handwritten annotation “ Hb. Reg. Turin. 1857”, where “1857” is the year that Casaretto’s specimens where sent to G. Casaretto actually collected in Rio de Janeiro from April to December 1839. In addition, a search in TO revealed an isotype of this taxon, Casaretto Herb. No. 1483, without the handwriting “ Hb. Reg. Turin. 1857” .
Echites torquata Casar. ex Müll. Arg. in Mart. et al. (Ed.), Fl. Bras. 6(1): 102. 1860, nom. inval. pro syn. (under Forsteronia brasiliensis A. DC. var. brasiliensis )
Cited as: “ Echites torquata Casar. ”
Müller Argoviensis (1860: 102), under Forsteronia brasiliensis var. brasiliensis , cited Casaretto’s specimen as: “Pl. Rio de Janeiro n. 1601 in hb. DC.”
Accepted name: Forsteronia brasiliensis A. DC.
