Diagnosis. Systelloderes species are characterized by moderately sized eyes; distinctly trilobate pronotum; posterior margin of middle lobe of pronotum being entire, without Y-shaped impressions, and lateral parts of middle lobe at most with a pair of pits; apex of fore tibia with none of its spiniform setae spatulate; fore claws normally developed, subequal in length; fore wing without discal cell; and posterior lobe of head of subequal length and width; ninth and tenth abdominal terga fused, forming a roof-like structure over the pygophore (autapomorphy, Wygodzinsky & Schmidt 1991); supradistal plate well-developed (plesiomorphy). The venation of the forewing shows slight variation among species. Species are distinguished by differences in the dimensions and shape of the lobes of the head and the pronotum, by armature of the fore tibia, and some other diagnostic features. Sexual dimorphism, when females are more robust than males, with wider legs, smaller compound eyes (different ocular index) and frequently shorter fore wings seems to be universal in Systelloderes (Baňař, unpublished data), and should be considered when describing species of this genus where only one sex is available.
