Notes to the literature data. The data for Ectobia livida ( Frey-Gessner 1893) cited by Nedelkov (1908) as Ectobia perspicillaris Herbst (= livida Fabr. ) and later referred to Ectobius lapponicus morpha erythronota by Buresch & Peschev (1957), are assigned to Ectobius erythronotus erythronotus . Specimens corresponding to the records of Ectobia laponica L. — var. pallidа Selys and Ectobia panceri Steph. by Drenski (1939) were found in the NMNH collection and referred to E. erythronotus erythronotus .
Part of the material by Peshev (1962, 1964, 1974, 1975) and Peshev & Mařan (1963) reported as E. vittiventris was found in the collection of the NMNH and identified as E. erythronotus (as was already proposed by f Buresch & Peschev 1957, and later by Popov & Chobanov 2004 for some of the material).
Distribution in Bulgaria ( Fig. 74 View FIGURE 74 ): E. erythronotus inhabits high-grass and low-shrub mesomorphic communities from the lowlands to 1300 m alt. Sometimes males climb to the top of low trees and shrubs. The species may also be found in ruderal areas.
Studied material. 662 specimens (628 adults, 34 nymphs) and 16 oothecae.
General distribution. This species is widespread in Europe reaching in the north to Latvia and eastwards to Anatolia. The species is introduced to the east coast of North America.
