Xantholinus (Calolinus) cypriacus n. sp.
(Figs. 9–10)
Type material. Holotype ɗ: Cyprus: Kyrenia, T.Palm 22.II.–14.III.1962 ( MZLU).
Description. Body length 8.5 mm; length from anterior margin of head to posterior margin of elytra 3.5 mm. Body lustre, slender, yellowish. Head of long and narrow ovoid shape, sides weakly rounded, posterior angles largely rounded. Eyes very small and flattened, about 1/6 the length of temples. Surface of head with superficial and very short frontal and ocular furrows, very fine, sharp and sparse punctures, except on large median band. Pronotum longer and anteriorly dilated, anteriorly about the same width as head, anterior margins not oblique, anterior angles strictly rounded, sides almost subrectilinear, with dorsal series of 8–9 fine punctures and lateral series of 5–6 fine punctures. Elytra slightly shorter than and approximately as wide as pronotum at point of maximum width (at anterior angles), humeri almost vanished. Surface of elytra with some series of large and superficial punctures. Abdomen with transverse microstriation and fine, very scattered puncturation.
Aedeagus as in Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 7 , with very small vestiges of parameres; internal sac with two series of large spines, in ventral view as in Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 7 .
Notes. The aedeagus of the specimen had been glued on the label, but the male genital segment was missing. This remarkeable species is the only uniformly yellowish species of Calolinus known in Europe. It is easily distinguishable from its congeners by the body color and the distinct internal structures of the aedeagus.
Distribution. Cyprus.
Etymology. From the name of Cyprus.
