Genus Phora Latreille, 1796 View in CoL
The genus comprises some 70–80 species from the Palaearctic, Nearctic and Oriental regions, with a single species described from the Afrotropics ( Beyer, 1965). Only two species, Ph. atra (Meigen, 1804) and Ph. holosericea Schmitz, 1920 , were previously reported from Israel ( Disney & Nussbaum, 1990). Systematic treatment of fairly large holdings of Phora in the collection may result in discovery of further species new to the country.
