Smetana, 2007: 44 ( Ocypus ; subgenus Pseudocypus ; Type locality: China, Sichuan, 1999 pass Xiahe–Hongxi Ta Yan Pint); Schülke & Smetana, 2015: 1091 ( Ocypus ; subgenus Pseudocypus ; Catalog of Palaearctic Region).

Material examined. Holotype: CHINA: Sichuan Province: male, “ China m., Sichuan m., 1999/ pass Xiahe—Hongxi/ Ta Yan Pint, 17.-25.5./ Dr. Vlad. Beneš lgt., 3000m // HOLOTYPE / Ocypus / ballio / A. Smetana 2006 [red rectangular card]// Coll. Dvorak” (MDC). Additional material examined: CHINA: Sichuan Province: 2 males, 1 female, Ebian County, way btw. Lewuxiang and Yizi Pass, mixed forest, 2543 m, N28.71208, E103.05903, 15.VI.2012, by pitfall trap, coll. Ganyan Yang & Ye Liu (IZ-CAS).

Measurements. Body length: 19.5–21.7 mm. CL: 0.68; EL: 2.74; ELS: 1.30; EW: 3.36; HL: 2.79; HW: 3.31; PO: 1.36; PL: 3.56; PW: 3.19.

Distribution. Ocypus ballio is at present known from Daliang Shan in Sichuan Province.
