Orthocentrus umbrocciput Veijalainen , sp. nov.

Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 B, 7 H, 9 H, 12 H, 14 H.

Fore wing length 1.8–2.1 mm.

Face medially 1.2x wider than high; face papillate-pustulate, eyes with scattered short setae (very few in paratype), dorsal ridge of face inbetween antennal sockets without a median prominence; face in profile slightly rounded, especially dorsally, edge of clypeus slightly impressed, antennal sockets on a shelf but shelf not particularly high; malar groove distinct, sharp, bent towards occiput; maxillary palp reaching to about epicnemial carina. In dorsal view, head posteriorly moderately concave (head laterally impressed in paratype), temples distinct, posterior ocellus separated from eye by 1.5x ocellar diameter, anterior ocellus separated from eye by 2.5– 3.0x ocellar diameter, lacking ocellar-ocular grooves. Minimum distance between antennal sockets about half diameter of socket; antenna slender, with 28–29 slightly elongate flagellomeres which not gradually shortening towards apex; basal flagellomere 0.7x as wide as high and about 1/2 of the length of scape; scape parallel-sided.

Mesosoma smooth and polished except pronotum with short striations postero-ventrally; mesoscutum lacking notauli; in profile, scutellum somewhat high, metapleuron slightly convex; propodeum with posterior transverse carina present between lateral longitudinal carinae, median longitudinal carinae complete, lateral longitudinal carinae reaching just below or to the level of spiracles, spiracles small.

Legs broad; coxae polished, femora polished-coriaceous, tibiae and tarsi coriaceous-granulate; hind coxa 1.0– 1.2x as long as first tergite, hind femur 2.9x as long as high, hind tibia 1.8x as long as apically wide; tibiae with spine-like setae.

Wings not particularly narrow; fore wing with areolet open, vein Rs apically slightly upcurving; hind wing vein cu-a not intercepted, straight.

First tergite elongate, apically hardly widening, 1.8–1.9x as long as apically wide; coriaceous, with two posteriorly almost complete median longitudinal carinae, with transverse impressions originating at about middle of tergite, sloping posteriorly, not meeting centrally. Second tergite 0.9x as long as apically wide; coriaceous, median longitudinal carinae of first tergite continue onto the anterior edge of second tergite, with faint transverse grooves originating below second thyridia, not meeting centrally, bending anteriorly near lateral margins; basal thyridia rectangular/oval, pale, second thyridia round/oval, pale. Third tergite with coriaceous microsculpture; second thyridia sometimes visible as slightly raised small round pale areas. Remaining tergites smooth and polished. Ovipositor straight, thin, without notch; ovipositor sheath with backwards-directed setae clearly longer than the width of the sheath.

Body setose except pronotum, mesopleuron and metapleuron; setae very scattered propodeum, few on posterior sides of coxae.

Head yellow except flagellomeres largely, interocellar area, temples partly, and occiput, brown, mouthparts creamy; mesosoma yellow except mesoscutum laterally sometimes with light brown patches, scutellum, axilla and postscutellum yellowish brown, propodeum sometimes with yellowish patches near spiracles; metasoma brown except tergite 2 apically and at thyridia, and tergite 3, yellow, tergite 4 from anteriorly yellow to almost completely yellowish brown, sternites white; fore and mid coxae, trochanters and trochantelli creamy, rest of fore and mid legs light to creamy yellow, hind leg completely yellow except femur, tibia and tarsi apically slightly brown.

Male. Unknown.

Biology. Hosts unknown. Both specimens were collected from Central American cloud forests.

Etymology. Named after the contrastingly dark occiput.

Comments. Compared with the other species that have antennae on a distinct but low shelf, completely papillate face, setose eyes, and second tergite without a posterior transverse groove, the first tergite is more elongate and temples wider than in O. bicoloratus , the mesoscutum and posterior tergites are more yellow, and the face profile ventrally rounder, than in O. nicaraguensis .

Material examined. Holotype female: ‘ Guatemala, Suchitepéq., 4 km S Vol. Atitlán, 1575 ± 4 m, 14.54807ºN, 91.19188ºW, cloud forest, 14–18 Jun 2009, Malaise, LLAMA #Ma-B- 09-1-02 ’ ( BMNH).

Paratype: 1 ♀ Honduras, Comayagua, PN Cerro Azul Meambar, 14.87176 ºN, 87.90069 ºW, 1060 ± 100 m, ridgetop cloud forest, beating veg., 22.V.2010, LLAMA #Go-C- 04-3-01 ( ZMUT).

The holotype ( Orthocentrus sp. 12 F GUA 86 LLAMA Ma-B- 09-1-02) was sequenced by Veijalainen et al. (2012) and its haplotype was clearly differentiated.
