Pollux cristatus ( Womersley, 1934)
Material examined. Syntype: 1 larva, Mt Osmond, 1 October 1933 (J9829). Type deposition: South Australian Museum. The syntypes J9827 and J9828 have spoiled and were not examined; these were not remounted because a satisfactory syntype exists. Also, Womersley (1934) records the species from Glen Osmond, free-living on Salvation Jane (Paterson’s Curse), Echium plantagineum , but also attached to insects including jassids ( Cicadellidae ). This data is not on his label.
Remarks. New or corrected measurements for this species are given in Table 1 View TABLE 1 and the following brief description is provided. Scutum border not clearly seen. Scutum carries a linear, rod-like crista. Anterior sensillary area triangular, and carries a pair of sensilla (ASens). Posterior sensilla (PSens) similar to anterior sensilla but longer, at posterior part of crista. One eye on each side of scutum, circular, situated just behind middle of dorsal scutum ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 12 – 14. 12 ), hypostomal seta as tiny, peg-like. Leg setal formula is as follows: Leg I: Ta- 1ω, 2ζ, 1z, 20n; Ti- 2φ, 1κ, 11n; Ge- 1σ, 1κ, 10n; TFe- 5n; BFe- 4n; Tr- 2n. Leg II. Ta- 1ω, 2ζ, 1z, 19n; Ti- 2φ, 10–11n; Ge- 1κ, 9n; TFe- 5n; BFe- 3n; Tr- 3n. Leg III. Ta- 1ζ, 20n; Ti- 1φ, 10n; Ge- 9n; TFe- 5n; BFe- 3n; Tr- 3n. About 65 ventral setae on idiosoma.
